MedicineAfrica is the King’s Health Partners (KHP) supported portal for global medical education using social networking technology, and has been active in Somaliland since 2009. In 2013, MedicineAfrica (through King’s College London) received a three-year grant from THET, ‘An innovative approach to supporting isolated health workers in Somaliland’. The grant was to develop a sustainable and well designed platform for the programmatic delivery of web-enhanced education and training in Somaliland that would ultimately improve the quality of patient care offered by multiple cadres of health professional in-country. In partnership with Community Systems Foundation, Anthrologica is undertaking the mid-term evaluation to a) assess the relevance and effectiveness of the MedicineAfrica method and platform in delivering training and education to health workers in Somaliland; and b) evaluate the technical strengths and weaknesses of the current platform, the rigour of the on-going re-design process and the potential of the new platform design as a tool for supporting education and research. The evaluation was conducted from August 2014 to January 2015.
