Anthrologica - Anthropology of Global Health

South Sudan

As part of a multi-disciplinary team working with the International Centre for Evidence in Disability at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Anthrologica conducted a qualitative assessment of obstetric fistula in South Sudan. Commissioned and funded by the UNFPA, the study addressed the epidemiological, public health and socio-cultural presentation of fistula. Using a series of in-depth interviews with women sufferers, relations, community members, health providers and government and non-government stakeholders, the study generated new empirical data that was presented to the Ministry of Health and the UNFPA to contribute to their development of an operational road map to address obstetric fistula in South Sudan. The research was conducted from April-October 2012.
